Catholic Bishops Heading to Prison, Part II – January 11th, 2013 11:32pm

Er, it’s more like Part I, as we go way back in time.

Attached is an icon of St. Blaise.  Look upon the picture of this Holy man of Christ.

St. Blaise was a Bishop of Sebastea, which is now modern day Turkey, in the fourth century.  According to my Butler’s Lives of the Saints, Blaise was born of rich and noble parents.  Even in his youth, he pondered on spiritual issues that weighed heavily on his soul, thinking about the sufferings and persecutions of his time.  He became a bishop at a very young age but when the persecutions of Christians under governor Licinius began, Blaise “withdrew by divine direction to a cave in the mountains.”  That same divine direction led him to heal many of the wild beasts that inhabited that same cave.  And that same divine direction allowed Blaise to be captured by the authorities.  Blaise WAS SENT TO PRISON TO BE BEHEADED.  On the way to his martyr’s death, Blaise was met with people crowding the streets to see their beloved bishop for the last time.  En route, a mother rushed her child to the “dead man walking”.  The child was choking from a fish bone.  The soon-to-be-Saint prayed over and blessed the child, who was immediately cured of his fatal affliction.  The Divine directed Blaise along that Calvary road to his death in the year 316.

I believe we are living in an age in which our own Catholic Bishops will be imprisoned.  It may not be our age in which our beloved Bishops are executed, but let the story of St. Blaise ruminate in your sorry soul.

Now.  Again.  Look upon that icon of beloved St. Blaise, who currently resides in the bosom of the Beatific Vision.

Lord, give me… give us… the strength to love You with all our heart, all our mind, all our soul.

St. Blaise, pray for us.  Pray for our Bishops.

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli says jail may be effective protest to contraception mandate

Published January 11, 2013

FoxNews.com

RICHMOND, Va. –  Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli said on a radio program Wednesday that going to jail may be an effective way to protest a mandate tied to ObamaCare that requires employers to provide contraceptive coverage.

Appearing on on Iowa conservative radio host Steve Deace’s syndicated show, the Republican gubernatorial candidate said civil disobedience is one way to attack the federal health care law’s requirement.

The so-called contraceptive mandate is now being challenged in a federal lawsuit by the Hobby Lobby stores. The company is primarily concerned about coverage for the morning-after pill, which some consider an abortion-causing drug.

Cuccinelli called the mandate an attack on the Roman Catholic Church and religious freedom and suggested that opponents fight back by forcing the feds to crack down on those who don’t comply.

Cuccinelli, who is Catholic, said he had spoken to a bishop who suggested he’d go to jail to protest it.

“My local bishop said he told a group, `Well, you know, I told a group I’m ready to go to jail,’ and I told him, `Bishop, don’t take this personally – you need to go to jail,” Cuccinelli said, trying to balance levity with seriousness.

Hobby Lobby and Mardel Inc., a religious book seller owned by the same conservative Christian family, plan to defy the federal health care law that requires employee health care plans to provide insurance coverage for the morning-after pill and similar emergency contraception. The company risks fines up to $1.3 million a day.

The companies are suing to block the requirement in the federal law, claiming it violates their owners’ religious beliefs. They say the morning-after pill is tantamount to abortion because it can prevent a fertilized egg from becoming implanted in a woman’s womb.

In three years as attorney general, Cuccinelli has pursued aggressive efforts to restrict abortion in Virginia. Last year, Cuccinelli forced the State Board of Health to reverse a decision to exempt existing abortion clinics from a new law that required them to meet the same architectural standards as new hospitals by saying the board overstepped its bounds and refusing to certify the board’s regulations.

He was also the first state attorney general to file a federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the 2010 federal health care reforms. In September 2011, a federal appeals court rejected Virginia’s challenge to the law, saying that the state didn’t have the right to bring a lawsuit.

In his interview with Deace, Cuccinelli said employers who want to challenge the law may have to make the hard decision to go to jail to “provide an example of what tyranny means when it’s played to its logical conclusion.”

“Abraham Lincoln has many good quotes, but one of them is `The best way to get rid of a bad law is to enforce it vigorously,” Cuccinelli said on the show, which is carried in several states.

Democrats and abortion-rights groups blasted Cuccinelli starting Wednesday evening after Politico reported Cuccinelli’s comments from the night before.

“For Virginia’s chief legal officer to suggest that citizens break the law is not only reckless, it’s dangerous,” said Democratic state Sen. Mark Herring, who is running for the office Cuccinelli will vacate.

NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia, the foremost reproductive rights lobby in Richmond, tweeted: “Ken Cuccinelli thinks ppl (people) should go to jail to oppose better access to birth control. And he wants to be our Gov?!”

Efforts to mandate vaginally invasive ultrasound exams before all abortions produced angry state Capitol protests in Richmond last winter and subjected Cuccinelli, Gov. Bob McDonnell and other Republicans in an election year to nationwide unfavorable headlines and ridicule by television comedians.

Kindness Dammit… and, Who the Hell is Zefrank? – January 11th, 2013 6:03pm

Damn you, Matthew Haas.

I had lots of work to take care of.  Lots.  And now look what you’ve gone done.

Because of you, and your stupid little, knee-slappin’-it’s-so-good video about Morgan Freeman, I will spend the better part of this weekend sitting in front of my computer, eating corn chips, not showering, and watching zefrank videos on YouTube.

Heck, I may end up watching THIS video ALONE for the next two and a quarter hours straight, due to its brilliance and utter hilarity.

Thanks, Matthew.  Thanks for nothing.

Alex Jones, Take Note; This Is How You Dismantle A Liberal – January 11th, 2013 2:35am

I was a history student at the University of Western Ontario.  Graduated way back in ’92.

Much has changed since then.  The hair on my crown.  The girth in my mid-section, to put it poetically.  (Huh.  There is NOTHING poetic about loving poutine.)  Heck, even my alma mater morphed into Western University.  Western… what, exactly?  The home of Roy Rogers post-secondary education?  I mean, what up with that?

What hasn’t changed, though, is the human condition.  And the potential for tyranny.

One of the classes I took at King’s College was a little ditty called “Totalitarianism in the 20th Century”.  I think I still have the textbooks, somewhere.  I will never forget the thrill of walking into that classroom with the promise of being mesmerized by some of the most sinister stories and depraved acts ever inflicted upon humanity.  The subject matter was so profound, so tragic, ‘ole UWO could have gotten away with the briefest of course descriptions in their outline booklets – “Will we ever learn?”

If there was one thing I took away from that class, it was this – a Godless society leads to utter chaos.

Now, Piers Morgan is no nihilist.  He’s worse; a misguided Catholic.  And that means adding “liberal” to his resume is no misnomer.  Remember, he thinks its about time the Bible get with the program and change its teachings on marriage.  Like, officially change it.  As in, amend it.

But Piers doesn’t want to amend the 2nd Amendment.  Oh no.  Or, so he says.  What else does Piers say about… oh… how about… a government taking on a tyrannical nature and turning on its own people?

Poppycock, says Piers.

Actually, he’s a little more forceful than that when discussing the matter with Breitbart.com’s Ben Shapiro.

This is a nice piece of video on how to dismantle a liberal.  I’d say “it’s absolewwwtly brilliant” in my best Queen’s English, but Ben gets a pretty good poke at it in the interview.

Sit back, and enjoy.  Grab a drink.  A little poutine, if you’re so inclined.  Smoked meat, if you’ve got it.

My Love – January 10th, 2013 11:00pm

It’s exactly 10:55 pm. And EXACTLY 15 years ago, I was wrapping up my first and only blind date with an extraordinary young woman who had agreed to dine with me at The Red Tomato in downtown Toronto.

It was a four hour dinner, that seemingly lasted 40 minutes. Within that space, I had TRIED to secure two more encounters for a later date; a movie, and perhaps a spin around the rink at Nathan Phillips Square.
I left the dinner completely enraptured with that young woman.

To this very day… At this very hour… Some 15 years later, I still am.

The greatest thing to ever happen in my life was my becoming a Catholic. But the greatest thing to ever happen in my life was meeting Andrea Schlegel.

Drea, thanks for being my skating partner.
I love you, darling.

Guns, Lies, and Videotape – January 10th, 2013 2:39pm

Folks, we won’t have to pry their pens from their cold, dead hands.

All we have to do is turn off the television set.   All we have to do is hit the scan button on our car audio system.   All we have to do is stop our newspaper subscription.  (Newspa-whaa?… Subscri-whaaadie??)

That’s it.  All we have to do is exhibit a little discretion on where we get our information.  Because the mainstream media continues to blast itself right in the foot.

Pun most explicitly intended.

The Sandy Hook Lies continue to emanate from all corners, but we here at damiangoddard.com are thankful that we have good, gun-totin’, God-fearin’ folk like Molotov Mitchell who have made the choice to put themselves on the front line for truth… for freedom… for faith.  (Where have I heard that before?…)

What gun was used by Adam Lanza?  Who should have their collective asses sued?

Molotov provides some answers.

By the way.  Some “journalists” still use pens.  Even the cold-hearted, spiritually dead, ones.

Something’s Gotta Give – January 9th, 2013 10:08pm

*WARNING* – The following contains some highly inflammatory statements.  And the other guy uses the f-word.  Viewer discretion is advised.

Is Barack Obama gonna “go there”?

Similarly, is James Yeager gonna “go there”?

Down what path is the United States headed?

Like I’ve said, we are living in very troubled times.  Pray.
And if you are a devoted Catholic, pray in front of the Blessed Sacrament.
Please.
